Hello, I’m Alex. Welcome!
For years I chased regular business, never realising the pace was too much for my nervous system. So I’ve paused my bigger, marketing-heavy shop, Pretty Cosy Chai, to build something tiny – this blog business – that fits me and the stage of life I’m in, instead of the other way round.
Why This Tiny Business Exists
It has two jobs, and both matter equally: supporting my nervous system healing and helping me earn. Financial stress doesn’t support good nervous system health, so earning is an essential part of this new adventure for me.
Why I Write About Doing Business With Limited Nervous System Capacity
I love talking about doing business with limited nervous system capacity because I suffered a great deal living this reality. I know others out there have too. It matters, to put it simply.
Sadly, the world doesn’t abound in content on this niche topic compared to the topic of hustling. So, in my own little ways, I’d like to plant a few seeds to raise awareness of this reality and the fact that hustling isn’t the only way to do business. I think I have a few things worth spreading, such as ideas, experiences, learning and musings, just in case they make someone’s day someday. It’s like the conversation over tea with a friend in a café. You don’t go for the chat expecting your friend to fix you, transform your life or hand you a guide. You go because you’re up for human connection over a chat on a topic that matters to you. Whatever comes out of it is ok.
I’m here to start a conversation that may speak to you, on the right day, in beautiful ways.
What Happens Here
Doing business with limited nervous system capacity is the heart of this blog. I write about it as I feel inspired, sharing my ideas, opinions, experiences and lessons learnt across four series: Motivation, One Thing I Learnt, My 2 Pence On This, and I Designed a Printable
The business is fuelled by creativity. Both the writing and the art making are equally therapeutic, each in their own way.
Cosy creative making nurtures my heart and soul, and I’ve found that a nurtured heart helps my nervous system stay regulated. So you’ll also find my colourful paintings, my tiny classic patterns, the abstract motivational cards I make on paper and on screen, and the printables I design for people like me. Some weeks I write, and some weeks I make art and share how it felt to make it.
My Creative Background
I’m a self-taught artist and designer, and I spent a good few years trying to build a creative business without ever succeeding. Sure, I got a good number of sales, made some money, but never enough to call it a reliable monthly salary. Looking back, I can see why: a lack of personal development, nervous system dysregulation, poor self-awareness, lack of marketing know-how, lack of confidence in my products, etc. What people say is true: knowledge is power. Awareness is half the problem solved. Thankfully, today I’m in a better place though still learning. And my mindset has evolved too to become quite focused on making business low-friction, slow-paced and regulating.
I suffered a lot and failed a lot, but I also learnt a fair bit across various areas of running a creative business. Along the way, I’ve made a little progress with my nervous system healing too. It’s nothing major, but it’s noticeable and I’m thankful for having travelled such a rich path thus far.
I believe I have invaluable experience and awareness to use as a foundation for a conversation, and that’s all I’m trying to achieve with this business: planting a little seed for whoever is willing to receive it.
My goal is to inspire, not to teach.
